Default java 2 runtime environment

Do i need this on my computer? what is it for? thanks.

It allows you to run java apps. Microsoft did used to do their own RE but it was sh|te and i think sun got a bit pi55ed about it which upset microsoft so they now (or afaik) don't ship any jave RE with windows.

So yeah you want it if you want to be able to run applications written in java then you want it

A lot of things on the internet use Java. I would download it (from anyways. Its not like it is spyware or whatever.

Yes, as both have said, it's pretty nice to have. First, there're many programs on the web using Java. Both malicious and non-malicious, it is used a LOT!
