Default its time to format but ...

its time to format my computer, but when i went to format it through command prompt using "format c:," a prompt pops up about the volume being used by another process, which brings me to my second op which i accidently installed. THey are both xp, and i was wondering if any body had suggestions or other solutions for formating.
