Invalid partition table problem at boot

I was over at a friends today fixing his computer. After I did a repair on windows vista it says invalid partition table and won't boot. I have tried the repair again and the os is detected in the recovery on the vista dvd. I have also tried the commands like
bootrec /fixmbr, fixboot rebuildbcd but none of those have worked. Any other ideas? I'm stumped

I've tried everything here and still no luck. Alot of other sites just list the same or similar ideas.
