I'm currently working on a HP Pavillion at work, and it had some major registry problems, so I was forced to do a rewrite. Problem was, I couldn't get it to see the cd drive on boot with XP in it...so I was going to do the other way out: delete the partitions, create a primary DOS partition, format it, and then write Windows 98 to it...then run the upgrade. Should be no problem...but after the drive had been partitioned and formatted, when I try to run setup, I get the following error:
"Standard Mode: Invalid DPMI return from 0417:0170"
I have never seen this error before...it happened after ScanDisk initializes and checks out, it says it's copying files for Setup, then I get that error, and it goes back to DOS prompt.
Can someone please shed some light on my situation?
