Question Internet Explorer 6.0 question

Hello, can someone pls. assist me with fixing a minor problem with my I.E. (seems to be minor anyhow)
Every time I open my I.E. web browser OR my Hotmail, it seems like 4-5 (I guess) windows open up behind it. But, only the top left portion of the page displays. It says "The page cannot be displayed". I'm sure you are familiar with the page.
I only see a small section of the page and there are 4 of them on top of one another on the left side of the page, there's one on top of the page, and one on the right side of the page (top to bottom-partial page). And when I am on a page and want to select the Back button, it has to close each window (in the background) before I can actually go Back to the previous page. (annoying)
Are there repairs for I.E.?
And if so, what are they!!
I run faithfully: Ad-aware, MS Antispyware, Disc Error-checking. I have an up-to-date (Trend Micro 2005) virus protector...etc.
Cannot figure this crap out...it is the ONLY problem I have with my laptop.

Thx in advance

Thx for the reply harley,
Actually I use both Firefox and I.E.
To me Firefox is a little slower than I.E., BUT, does seem to be more secure...zero problems w/ Firefox so far.
I am a little new to the I.T. field, and enjoy the troubleshooting end of it. I enjoy fixing things...lol.
Would you have any suggestions on a possible fix?

Thx

IE is really bugger and often caught with its pants down, I wouldn't use it.
