Default Inter Fprest Permissions for Windows 2003 Server

halo everbody,

i have a windows 2003 forest and a windows 2000 server forest that are linked via an external trust. the domains are able to communicate without any problems, but that's where the good news ends.
there are shared folders on the win2k domain that users from the win2003 users have to access. the permissions to access these shares were applied in the win2k pdc. unfortunately, certain sub-folders cannot be accessed by the win2003 domain users. access to the parent folders are fine. but a few levels down inside the parent folder, access is denied.
after a few hours of reapplying these permissions, the permissions appear as SID's in the sharing and security window on the win2k server. the whole cycle will repeat itself if i try applying the permissions again.
i have exhausted most of my resources trying to solve this problem. i hope you guys can help me. thank you all for trying.
