Red face Instant Messaging

This is obviously an improved feature within XP, but i would prefere to do without it. I thought that I had removed the software for it, but upon using outlook the icon appears in the bottom right tray.
How do i fully remove Instant Messaging?
As I believe in removal of all unnecessary software, otherwise please explains its advantages.

This will get rid of the window's messenger.

1) Click on Start, Run

2) Type the following (or cut and paste it) into the Run line

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

3) Click on OK

4) Restart computer so it will take effect

Or you can use TheMajor's thing
