it must have jumpers on the back between the power and ide there should be some pins. Whats is the part number from wd?

robina Dells are iffy with some IDE drives, try the hard drive in CABLE SELECT

the Hard drive its got jumper settings and i make that a master but the CD hasnt got any jumper pins atall

its wierd coz when i plug in the old HD that i had on that computer the bios recognizes it plus also shows the CD aswell but when i plug in the new HD it doesnt show in bios atall not even the CD

Because i have said before it will need to be put in with the jumpers set to CABLE SELECT. Take the jumpers of the old drive an test it an a IDE drive should ship with jumpers, if you havent got them either go to a local PC shop an ask them if they have a few knocking about the place (trust me they will) or i can send you some it will only cost a stamp but dont expect 1st class.
