This computer is used for gaming, and the odd bit of internet use, so im just wanting to know is it worth installing it on my machine??.

Thanks for any help.

Because its still in Beta, Windows 7 won't be usable in a fair amount of games, i believe that games with Punkbuster won't work, due to it not being a recognised OS...

You could dual boot and see what its like. Then if you like it, remove the xp partition

Tim is right.

PunkBuster will give you trouble. But it can be fixed. But other game protection software can not. So far ONLY PunkBuster has a fix for it. The rest you have to wait for them to update which will not be done till Win7 goes final.

So if you play a lot of games online that use this cheat protection software you might not want to install it yet.

Also know that there is driver issues for some people as well. RealTek is a device that takes some work to get the sound working.

All in all if you dont have experience with Betas then i would steer clear. It will take more work to get it working for you to game than you will want. Aside from teh fact if the games will even work. Some older generation games will require updates.

I use win7 for my primary OS but reboot into XP x64 to play CoD4 because of punkbuster.

There's now a fix for it? Mind pointing me in the right direction? Thanks

Guru,

To fix PunkBuster go to the directory it is stored in. There find the actual PunkBuster Executable file. Right click>Properties.

Select the Compatibility Tab and set it for Vista. Also select Run as Admin.

After that click okay.

This will force PunkBuster to run in Vista mode and allow you to game with it on. This is the ONLY cheat protection software that this works with. Others have been tested like this but they use a different method to identify the OS.

Maybe try running the game in Vista Compatibility mode as well?

Could be. The 64 Bit version i think is identified differently than the 32 Bit version. Which would cause this conflict. Sorry mate.
