installing too many applications

Hi
is there anything such as "installing too many applications"
i mean if i just install programs to the program files in the windows folder, will that affect the performance in any way?

of course having too many apps running at once will decrease performence, and having too many apps at startup will decrease performence as well. But, just having them installed should not hurt anything.
