Installing an operating system -

I am trying to reinstall an operating system on my pc.... How do I do it for free?? It originally came with Windows 7. I tried to run the download tool from Downloads.com but that didn't work and I was looking at this link from Microsoft that sorta helped:

I am not sure how to fix this.

Is this a prebuilt system like HP, Dell, etc.? Or is it a custom-built machine? Do you have the Windows 7 license key sticker still?

Prebuilt and the sticker is a little faded and hard to read !

Ok so what brand?

Do you have the recovery partition on the HDD still? If you do, you can restore from that. If not...(for example if you replaced the hard drive), then you'll need to contact the manufacturer (HP, Dell, etc.) for a set of replacement install discs. Usually costs around $20 IIRC.

If you still have the drive where Win7 is installed you can use Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to pull the serial for you.

What version of Windows 7 is your COA sticker for? Can you make out the key?

Windows 7 Perfessional... Most of it I can make out but probably about 5 letters I cant make out.

Anyone know how to make a file bootable ? Just spent over 1 HR on the phone with Microsoft and got nowhere!
