Installation problems due to bad CD-ROM?

Is it possible that a CR-ROM that does not read that good could cause a a bad installation of Windows XP Pro?

1st try: Missing system32 files, and then not rebooting after...

2nd try: Missing Internet Explorer

3rd, with new CD-ROM...FINE!

Any comments??

Yep I've seen it happen planty of times. Both a bad CD-ROM drive or scratrched install CD.

and it seem on to be happen on a lot of these new cheap drives. like those mass produce cheap 29.99 cd burners. this is not a problem on old cheap cd-roms

get an old cd rom or connect the pc to a network and share that cd rom drive. copy the contents of the xp cd unto the hdd. run it from there. pick the upgrade option. it will fix everything
