Default I can convert an external USB HD from Fat 32 > NTFS without loosing data...

Can i convert using the commant prompt?

Also data will not be lost correct?

convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs (using that command)

Yes, that will work, going from FAT to NTFS all your data should stay intact. Of course, I would recommend backing up first anyways.
