Hi there, I have a HP Compaq Nc4000 with a faulty hard drive. My task is to replace the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP Pro, however, the laptop has only an external USB optical drive. In the BIOS, there is no option to select the external drive as bootable, and as such I'm stuck with no way into it to install XP.
I had considered forcing a Ghost out of the old drive, but it'd almost certainly create a knackered installation on the new drive, that'd need a repair to be performed. And as I said a moment ago, I can't boot to CD to do that.
Any ideas please?
Cheers, Matt.
