Hi,

I am currently running Windows 2000 Server, and I would like to completely remove the OS without rebooting from floppy/CD or using any 3rd party software.

I tried formatting the C: drive, but I get the message saying that the volume is in use by another process.

Basically I would like to have a machine with no OS running. How do I proceed?

Thanks

Hrm, you'd HAVE to use another startup process, such as floppy, USB (if your BIOS allows), or another HD. You could slap it into another computer and do it that way. But you've got to have something to load DOS to format it by what your saying.

I am not sure if you can do this in 2000 but you can in XP. Put in a floppy, Go to my computer>>right click the a:>>format>>

See if there is an option to create a boot disk. If there is, do it then boot to DOS. In dos then you can type format c:\

If you are planning on installing another operating system, you can just boot off of the CD and during the install process it will kill the partition and format.
