Default how to format a SATA

my old ide hdd has failed, and i bought a new SATA. i am trying to format and install windows XP pro the way i did it with ide. unfortunately it says that it can not recognise the hard disk. an other thing is that the sata disk is already loaded with windows xp pro, and when i boot the pc it goes ok toi the windows. HOW DO I FORMAT IT? i want a clean install of windows Xp pro

could you be more specific what do you mean? the bios can see the hard disk. the system works perfect. the thing is that i do not know how to format a sata
