How to download software for Sony camcorder without the disk?

It is a DCR-DVD403 and I have been trying for HOURS to download the software. I tried the Sony website but it didn't work. Please, if someone could give me step-by-step instructions with links I will be SO grateful you don't even know!!! I just got a new computer and there is nothing on it, so absolutely no software for it.

What do you mean it doesn't work when you download it from Sony's site?

Did it come with a disc you can install with?

Somebody gave the camcorder to me, but I don't have any software or anything. I have no idea what to install. When I tried to install the software and driver (Lost your original software disc? Download PMB (Picture Motion Browser) and Cyber-shot Viewer Download Manager. : Download : Sony Middle East & Africa) I could only get up to the "Before downloading" screen before it said that the camcorder wasn't connected. It was plugged into the computer with a USB.

Did you have it turned on? Does the computer recognize that the device is there? Or is it not detecting it correctly/says its unknown or something like that?

Yes it is turned on and set to the USB Mode. When I plugged it in the computer asked me if I wanted to save the files or view them in Windows Media Player but when I try to view them it doesn't work because I don't have to software.
