How do you know BIOS are cleared?

Iam trying to clear my friends HP nc6000 HD and reinstall OS. I was going to clear the bios, but i have already cleaned the HD and reinstalled XP. If i disconnect that bios battery now, what will happen? How do i know the bios are cleared? I just want to completely clean the computer..What is the best way to go about this..THANKS

take out the motherboard battery and place it back in around 1 hour later...

You will know that a bios is cleared when after you put the bios battery back in and fire up the pc, you will get a prompt to enter the time and date and maybe a few other settings like the primary and and secondary boot devices.

go in the bios and changes something, then take out the battery or use the cmos jumper to clear it, then go back in and see if it has changed, if it did, you set the bios back to default

take out the motherboard battery and place it back in around 1 hour later...

it is quicker to hold the power button down for like 10 seconds. it will clear the power in the capicitor.
