How do I wipe my HD's clean and reinstall XP?

XP Setup has the ability to do this as well.

Just do not use the quick method. Use the full format. It will take some time but it is worth it.

Can someone please be a little more specific as to how to completely wipe my Maxtor SATA II 300GB completely clean and start again just as if it were new out of the box?

Eric, I tried to set up my system by following your post, and somehow I managed tot totally mess things up. When I moved My Documents to the other part of the petition, my system no longer booted. Apparently there are some very important items in My Documents.

this kills the boot sector (if you have boot sector issues) on a quick erase and it can wipe zero to the drive. the xp cd can do neither. it's long format is a quick format plus checkdisc

plus you just boot from it and follow it's simple instructions. then the system will automatically boot from the xp cd

Yes there are some important files in the My Documents folder. But that would not cause the NTLDR missing. That file is located in the root fo the drive. No in the My Documents folder.

As i have said just use the XP CD. I linked to a guide on how to setup XP and there is instructions on installing and formatting there. It will guide you thru this easily.

Yes, I have the original CD. And I also have my new slip streamed CD as well! So I suppose when I enter set up it will ask me to reformat? Is that it?
