Default How do I get back old data after reinstalling windows?

I have a costumers computer that she had did a system recovery (compaq and hp recovery). basically she reinstalled windows.

she have old documents that she needs, that had got deleted. I've never done this before. I have plenty of data recovery programs. I using ontrack's format recovvery right now, but I think that it is recovering the new windows files after the install.

what should I use?

ERD is good but I wont guarantee anything. Most of the time when I recover deleted files, they wont open properly, so its corrupted.

you can try some forensics utilities, or somethign like Free Undelete..

Depending on how windows installed (well where it installed) you can get some of her data back. Just get a program that will read the actual data on the hard drive, not access it through the TOC.
