I have a Powerpoint pptx presentation which reports and error when I attempt to open it. The system may have been turned off in the middle of a PowerPoint session. The file was a pptx file from a later version of PowerPoint. I loaded into a 2007 version and it still came up with an error but offered to repair which it did. I saved the repaired version to the old format for use with PowerPoint 2003.
What is good software for PowerPoint file recovery?

Kinda confused - so you let Office 2007 repair it, and then saved the repaired version...did the repair not actually fix it?

Look at this link first. Maybe it will also help you.

Before going the route of purchasing software, make sure you can't recover it using the built in file repair process. Have you tried the built in file repair process? It is an option when you use the file open dialogue box, there should be a drop down on the Open button that has Open and Repair.
Also, there were bad updates recently that causes files to become corrupt. They may be salvageable -- which version of PPT are you using?
If the problem still persists, then check your file through an online service.https://onlinefilerepair.com/en/powerpoint-repair-online.html If it turns out that it is damaged then I as an expert can advise you to use the utility PPTX Repair Kit to repair a damaged file. I wish you success! https://www.pptx.repair/
