help please

can people tell me if the file system is damaged part is something i should be really worrying about and if theres anyway to really correct that...also i have another problem as of late every now and then i go to open a program my browser or anything at all and there is a long delay sometimes up to 10 min and then everything comes up or the one thing finally comes up..can someone please give me an idea to what can be causing this and how to fix it

Did you run a chkdsk with the thourough option to see if it makes a difference? If you are doing it from Windows check both boxes.

well i got rid of the file disk error but i think i still have the delay problem it all started after i reinstalled windows i did it as an upgrade cause i didnt want to lose my music and videos..but now i seem to be having problems like the delay and certain programs have issues..when i put in the windows xp cd if i choose the other install the one besides upgrade will that erase my music or will it just do the same thing or will it just erase programs and not my files
