Help with Password on PDFs

Can someone please tell me about to put a password on PDF files? I tried everything. I tried going into the Docuement Securities like the websites says but when I open the file and enter the password, it comes up with nothing.

What is the proper way of password-protect your PDF...just for opening it. I think it somehow involved Distiller.....

HELP!
