I had windows Vista Beta and didn't like it so I re-installed XP. Maybe the right drivers weren't re-installed?

aghh hah..now we are getting somewhere. When you re-installed XP how did you approach this? Did you blow out the entire hard disk and reformat? More importantly did you install the chipset driver pack for your mobo? I would try that download the latest chipset drivers for your mobo, install and reboot. See if that will bring ACPI components back for ya (stand by, hibernate etc etc).
