Hi all!

Something happened on my Vista Ultimate 32-bit system where I cannot see the start menu or screen anymore. Everytime I attempt to boot the system, I can only see a black screen with my white cursor arrow. I can move the cursor arrow, but cannot see anything on my screen except black, black, black!

I tried to do a repair with my existing Windows Ultimate Vista Disc, but it cannot seem to find my OS. Then it tells me something like a partition was moved or not found. Really strange! Everything is legit on my system including MS license, etc.

The computer permits me to select "start in safe mode" but when I do select it, I still get the black screen.

Can anyone help me out? I foolishly did not do any back up of my data files. I really hope to be able to retrieve them somehow.

What can I do now?

Please help me.

It's me,

Soar

Looks like explorer isn't opening.
You can open task manager (ctrl+alt+del or ctrl+shift+esc) and run explorer.exe

Otherwise you'll have to find a way to make explorer run on startup.
Possibly adding an entry to the registry in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
