winlogon.exe - application error

the instruction at "0x015e7ef4" reference memory at "0x01528000". The memory could not be "read"

what cause this error and how do i fix it. winXP is the OS.
i have never seen this error before and it occurs on windows load the resarts the PC

I woulk make sure that every thing is seated correctly inside the comp and run defrag and antivirus

tried that first, i also ran a registry check, checked for abstract processes running. can't find anything out of wack.

Last resort, you could always get a Win95/98 boot disk, boot into dos and replace that file with one you know is working.

I've never seen anyone have to do that with an .exe before though.

Did you change/install anything new before this happened?? Also, what OS are you using?

it was winXP as i said in first post. i am reformatting the HD put a diff one in for the time being.
