Default hdd spin down

are there any MORE ADVANCED options/settings for the idle spin down of the hdds?

yes, i know those, but are there any more advanced ones? sorry should have been more clear in my first post.

the reason i want some form of idle spin down is that because of the bad case design, (dell) the HDDs can get VERY hot, occasionally hitting 65*C on large backup runs, idling at 40-50*C.
