Hmmm
Could be wrong but sounds like the partition table has got corrupted somehow.
You could try testdisk (runs in w2k or dos) which claims to be able to recover lost partitions.
Go to the link below to download it for free:

If this does turn out to be the problem, it might be worth running a virus scan over all the drives to make sure that isn't the cause.

You're right, that doesn't look too clever!

The link below is for downloading a freeware program that recovers FAT32 partition tables. The program was written for recovery from the CIH virus but should work with your problem.

Let us know if it helps.

Do you have a copy of Nortons Disk Doctor or any other 3rd party software for fixing drives?
I must admit, I would be really reluctant to use Nortons as it's crap & can do a lot of harm but as a last resort, might be worth a shot. Just make sure you create an undo disk when prompted & use a brand new floppy, as theres a good chance that Nortons will stuff it up.

Another thing to try : boot into dos & run fdisk. IF and ONLY IF fdisk recognises the drive capacity correctly, you could try deleting the partition, then recreate it & format. You will of course lose all your data permanently if you do this but should allow drive to be useable again.

nah, i don't have any of that stuff.

i'm probably just gonna try to format though.

the music isn't all that big of a deal....it took some time to rip all my cd's and get some from friends, but....my one buddie pretty much has my music cloned cause we listen to the same stuff...so i'll just end up bringin' my computer there and gettin' it all back.

thanks for all the help and suggestion though.

the funny thing is i was going to move them all to my main hd lol. guess i won't have to do that now.
