i hear my hard drive grinding at certain intervals every few seconds.

is there a way to see whats acessing the drive?

Most times, it's the OS that doing it... either some scheduled task, search and indexing, or some software doing a scan (IE - anti virus, etc...)

What concerns me more is the grinding... Drive might be failing if it's starting to do that. How old is the drive?

i mean grinding as in acessing( the noise it makes when needle jumps around)

thats the newest drive i have bought it 2 yeas ago its 1TB drive thats about 75% full

i have defrag set for all drives but its not scheduled for today. i dont have any other scheduled tasks including antivirus

it was just acessing something for about 3-4 hours and then stopped.

indexing service is disabled on all drives also
i checked resource monitor but couldnt see any obvious sprocess that was doing it
