Default Good video compression program?

Hello all, I'm looking for a good video compression program. Using avi files, and just trying to get the best compression while still maintaining high quality.

Currently using Autogordian/Vdubmod per recommendation of this board, is there anything better?

Most video files are small files, less then 5 minutes

Maybe DVDFab? but doubtful. As Auto GK is prob the best out there for this. I have used many compression apps and Auto GK has been the best.

Do .wmv files compress better? And if so, since Auto GK doesn't work with .wmv's, is there a good .wmv compressor available? It seems like .wmv files can have higher quality and be longer in duration. I'm still pretty clueless with all this stuff though.

what about super video converter? its not exclusively a video compressor but you can change the bitrate and encoding of the video and audio to make it smaller.
