Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could tell me if there'sa simple yet potent software out there that I can install on the computer to monitor the computer in order to see what websites the users go on. To be honest I'm trying to keep my kids off myspace. hehe too young for it still! =\

Let me know! =)

We use St. Bernard Iprism web filter here at work, probably wat too much for just a home pc.
But you could just make them a user account, and add the site to the resticted list in internet properties.easier and cheaper.

Oh they don't like when you bump a thread without waiting atleast 24 hrs for a response.:)

What browsers do you use? Each browser you can blick a specific site.

In IE you go under the tools>Internet Options and in the Security tab under restricted sites add MySpace, Facebook and Quechup along with any other sites to the list. IE will then not load the site at all.

In Firefox and Opera there are ways as well. Let me know which browser you use so i can give directions.

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

That will describe how to add host files at the OS level to block specific sites as well. Even better than a browser block.

Hi Cajete,

To know what sites your kids are browsing; you can check your browser history. If you detect your children browsing sites that you not want to allow; you can use any website blocker for different browsers. Some of these are listed at
Block Unwanted Spam Porn websites on PC

The only problem with that is that a lot of kids are smart enough to know that you can delete individual entries in your history so no one knows you went to the website. You're best off to just block the offending sites.

depending on how you connect to the net, you could just block em at the router, that is if you are using one. if you do have a router it may have the capablitys to log internet activity aswell, some you can even setup users and such to help with who instead of just what computer.
