Unhappy get crazy with my hard drive problems ;)

-Formated my PC because of the W32/Parite-B (I think I totally removed it (with help of a tool of Sophos Anti-Virus))
-Reinstalling XP / Reached the point where I have to choose the partition

-Every time the message appeared that on this partition some install files should going to be copied but the HD isn't compatible to Win XP. Whatever I did I couldn't install the OS on one of my two HDs.

-I took two other HDs where WinXP for the first and Win98 for the other were installed on.

-Then I tried to boot of one of them but in both cases this message appeard:

> > Alert! OS Install Mode enabled. Amount of available memory limited to 256MB.

I'd no idea what to do so I searched the Internet and just found this one:

This is something related to/triggered by the ACPI code, booting with
acpi=off makes it go away (2.4.21).

I heard that it isn't possible to disable the ACPI in my BIOS.

I don't know what to do now.

Why can't I install an OS on my partitions. Why do these messages appear. What can I do to get my PC working again.

My pc: Dell Dimension 4600
have the Windows XP CD
NO Floppy drive

Im not really a hardware pro. Need some help please!

Thanks a lot!

You can start a clean format by using fdisk.exe then reformat your HD, then install your software....
