Funky file problem, won't delete

I'm going through a friends laptop (it's a bit of a mess) and I'm having a problem deleting a file.

It's an .avi file, about 700 megs. Anytime it's clicked on (not even opened, just clicked on) Dr. Watson goes nuts and fails, and unless that particular process is ended, you have to reboot.

I tried going through the CMD prompt and get rid of it that way, but it says it isn't there.

Any ideas?

Have you tried booting to safe mode and deleting?

try eraser:

unlocker:
|MG| Free Download - Unlocker 1.85

once installed just right click the file choose eraser or unlock and boom file deleted hopefully

just noticed you said once you click on it...not sure if unlocker and eraser allow you to delete a file without clicking on it could type in the file location in unlocker or eraser eg: c:\badfile\badfile.avi

i second unlocker, even has a shell extension. also the ol xp video file preview bug seems to be your problem, and i know for a fact unlocker can fix it but ive never used the others before.
