Guys,My boys in the room have just basically made their computer inop. When it gets switched on it comes up with an error message NTLDR is missing, press ctl alt del to restart.
I have tried to do a repair using the xp disk,(which boots up ok)
but it either keeps rebooting or hangs at a certain bit saying that this certain file cannot be found.
My next step was to reinstall windows xp,but when I try this,it tells me that drive c is corrupted and cannot be repaired.
Think I need to start from scratch and format the hard file.
I have all the main documents that I need on my laptop which I am working from and don't need any saved data from the hard file.
Hard file is divided into 3 partitions c,e,f(i think)which a friend done.

My pc details are as follows
Dell dimension 4400
windows xp
20gb h/file
256mb mem

All help appreciated.
Remember I am know pc expert and I only know the very basics....thanks.

When you boot from disk hit ( install )
Then delete your partition and format using NTFS.
You should be ok after that.
If you get error while formatting then your HDD is toast. ( I don't think you will get an error though )

When you boot to disk ( xp disk ) you should have options on the screen. Do you see Install Windows as an option ?
Once you see this Hit install Windows.
It will ask if you want a new installation of windows.
You hit that, and then delete your partitions once windows recognizes the broken installation.
Once you delete your partition you need to create a "NEW" partition formatted with NTFS.
