If you are trying to format. Sorry to say but someting is already messed up and you can not get any worse.

Burn GParted to a CD. Use ImgBurn.

Burning ISO Images with ImgBurn - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

The insert GParted into the drive and boot with it in there. Get the interface loaded up and make sure you either delete all the partitions or set them up how you want them. From there right click and format the drive to NTFS. Clikc apply and all done. Then insert the Vista DVD and install.
