Default Formatted, encountering Problems

PC Specs:

Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra sli motherboard

gigabyte geforce 6600GT 128mb

AMD Athlon64 3200+

Well, my computer was misbehaiving so i formatted it. reinstalled windows.
i activated windows, installed the drivers on the motherboard cd and the graphics cd. i installed norton internet security 2005. I installed the high priority windows updates, but now when i try the non priority ones, they download, but nothing happens when it comes to install.

my problem is, it is running slowly, the mouse pointer is lagging, and sound files stutter.
I dont know what to do.
Can anyone help?

Send a message via AIM to Win2kpatcher

Do these symptoms occur in safe mode? If they dont you can narrow down some what...then try safre mode with networking and if it happens you know its something with the network causing the problem. If it doesnt then you know it is some kind of driver or setting starting with windows causing the problem. Then we can go from there.

How much RAM do you have. I used to have really bad latency issues on XP because of low RAM.

You have a lot of background processes. Norton is a hog in every single aspec of the definition of that word also.
My current specs:
i7 920
Biostar TPower x58
3x2GB g.skill
XFI GTX260 Black Edition
640 WD Caviar Black
Vista Home Premium x64
