Flash and DivX players

Hi all,

I've had a look using the search tool and didn't find this so I thought I'd post it here (I think this is the right place).

My problem is that both the Flash player and the DivX player can have the most horrendous effect on my computer. Now, i put these in the same thread because the similarities of the problems lead me to think that there may be a related issue.

Firstly, the flash player. When watching videos on youtube, the flash player works perfectly and as expected. However, playing simple flash games can cause sudden spikes of lag (stuttering) and 100% CPU usage. Oddly enough, the sound is unaffected, its just the animation that lags; the sound continues as though it was not connected to the visual component.

Secondly, the DivX player. Watching some DivX videos over the internet can also cause a sudden Spike in CPU usage (again, to 100%). The video freezes and the sound enters a continuous loop. If i pause the player and wait for the CPU usage to go back down then press play it works for a while, until another spike.

Now I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both players (even using the flash player removal tool) and nothing changed. I have scanned my computer with my full array of anti-malware tools:

avast antivirus
AVG antivirus
Malwarebytes anti-malware
Spybot S&D
a-squared Free

and none of them found anything wrong with the computer. I've also tried a full defragment of the HDD (hey, sometimes this works). I use Google Chrome mostly thesedays but i have tried using IE8 and FF and i get the same problem on both of those too.

Anyone have any more ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I also followed the advice posted here: Windows 7 Full and created the reports.

NOTE: I have Win7 x64 so Combofix doesn't work on my computer (it comes up with a compatibility error)

Log looks fine, one thing I noticed is your local drive is E:, maybe that could cause an issue?

You can try uninstalling all the web players such as DivX, VeohWebPlayer, etc and flash as well, then run ccleaner, make sure to check all the boxes but the last one, then run the reg cleaner. Make sure IE and any browser is closed before doing all this.

Then install Flash only and see if you still have the same issue. If you dont then move on to the next and so on.

Ok i'll try that and see what happens.

I'm not sure that being on drive E would cause an issue, unless the code for both programs is poorly written.

I was always told to stay clear of reg cleaners because some can do more harm than good and it isn't necessary to get rid of unused reg entries just like it isn't necessary to get rid of all unused files. Is the ccleaner one particularly good then?
