everytime i start up windows xp and the welcome screen shows up, or a login/logout, i get a message asking to terminate "firedaemon.exe" and sometimes when i am logged in, it asks to send an error report.

Does anybody know what this is? a virus? a malfunction? missing file?

Please help me ASAP, as this is probably easily repairable...

P.S. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite installed and updated.

firedaemon.exe is an application running in the background allowing a user to install and run applications as a Windows NT or Windows 2000 service.

Sometimes users receive these errors due to a partially removed vulnerabilty of some sort. For instance, an anti-spyware application removing some portions of a program or piece of spyware preventing it from harming your computer or even running for that matter. But, the anti-spyware application used did a sloppy job of actually removing the piece.

firedaemon.exe has been noted in many security cases as something that should be removed. Perhaps, it has been partially removed, but something is still triggering it to fire up at some points. You should try to remove it. Which spyware removal tools have you used in the past?
