Default which is the fastest way?

Hi, What would be the fastest process to check the hardisk for bad sectors or any physical damage? since this surface scan takes a lot of time to complete and show you results when you are using the hardisks with big capacity... So ?

chkdisk Not much else you can do.. scandisk!!

Scandisk in DOS was my best way, but this only works on FAT file systems

i have FAT File system.. And thats what i do scandisk.. but i guess to find the bad sectors.. you want to do Surface scan! which takes hell a lot of time
