Default explorer stops/closes and reopens

well, i just got the glass top desk, a logitech mx310 mouse an a viewsonic keyboard.

when the desk was setup, we decided to use a vga cable instead of the dvi cable to run to the LCd monitor, because there was a short in the dvi.

i also installed the mouses's drivers and now one of the programs for logitech wants to act as a server says my firewall.

those are the only things that have changed.

now the problem is that explorer keeps closing every minute or two like clockwork and then 2-3 full seconds later, it reopens itself, just to shutdown again in a minute or two, it's a never ending cycle.

i have done the following to try to fix the prob:

scan with adaware se, fully updated. it found the normal tracking cookies, but nothing else.

scan with spybot, which found the normal DSo exploit as always

ran regsupreme registry cleaner, fixed 3 problems by removing 128 useless keys.

as i type, i still see the bottom task bar dissapearing and then reappearing every minute or two.

what else should i do or look for?

EDIT: there was loss of power as well, my surge protector's breaker blew and i had to reset it, could this cause the problem?

EDIT #2: i scanned for viruses and nothign came up. i also went into zonealarm and manually unchecked programs that had acces that i didn't want to have acces, including the logitech program that acts like a server. everyting seems to be running smoothly, i haven't seen explorer close for a good half hour now.

alright, ran it, it took an hour just because the first half hour i was running around looking for the XP disc, evidently didn't find anything, when it got to 100 percent on checking the DLL's it just closed. so while having the XP disc in, i decided to do a repair, but, i guess my OEM disc doesn't have a repair option since i spent like 10 minutes going through all the options just to make super sure i didn't see a repair option.

i think it was logitech's "backweb" program trying to act as a server that was mucking up my machine, because as soon as i denied it access to the internet, my comp has been fine.

Well, last bump, I guess I'll have to live with it until I have the time and energy to back up my entire 250 Gig HDD to DVD and then reinstall XP. That's the only thing I can come up with to solve this problem. (my other comp's 80 gig is full, so DVD is the only way)

A new problem, my forceware drivers corrupted overnight out of the blue, woke and powered up the comp to crappy default video settings and stuttering motion. Let's hope that the drivers messing up was the problem and kept killing explorer, that way I won't have to reinstall XP.

Thanks to the people that did help so far and thanks to anyone who will help more.

ohGrFreak, download the Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) and run it (but be careful esp if you use Mc Afee, it seems to think that McAfee is spyware, LOL).

Then download and run a HiJack This log and post it in the HiJack This (Analyze) forum and one of us will get to it as soon as possible. Liz
