Explorer.exe failure I have no idea whts going on please help

I am a newb to a lot of things as far as pcs go. A buddy of mine linked me to this forum and I'm hoping one of you guys may know whats going on here.

The drive this is speaking of is an external hard drive. That kind of threw me off becuase I think this has something to do wtih windows registry but windows is installed on my C drive. Any ideas of whats going on and how to fix it? Id really appriciate the help thanks a lot

So *have* you run the Chkdsk utility? What did *it* tell you?

I ran it but nothing changed I decided to just reformat the drive hopefully that will fix the issue

was your drive connected when you ran chkdisk?

i havent gotten the pop up since i reformatted but it didnt happen regularly it would be kind of random its been happening for about a week now
