This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I`ve already ran 3 virus scans from a test machine and when I try to boot to this hard drive that is the error I get. Even in safe mode. BTW, its win 98. any suggestions guys? ps, I can`t get into windows to do anything. Thanks for any help.

1. Give us more information (like, what program, exactly when, and what the event logs say)
2. Start in safe-mode, scope things out
3. Time for a re-install. What were you doing before this started happening?

It happens when booting into windows. It even does it when booting to safe mode.It wont let me in to windows at all. I did do a scanreg /restore back like a year and a half, but now I am having trouble with my installed programs.The scanreg seems to have fixed the error though.

Very nice thing to say.
I do suggest re installing as well, but you might want to upgrade. Windows 98 is famous for the illegal operation, since i have had XP, i have never heard or seen an illegal operation on it.
