I would leave NIS off your system. It has been nothing but **** on systems I've worked on where the user has installed it..problems with programs, OS, web surfing..it did a number. I took it off and they couldnt be happier. They still were worried about not having a firewall, but explained to them they had a NAT Router in place and didnt need a software firewall and just enabled the XP SP2 firewall to put them a bit more at ease.
