Default Error after reformat

I just recently reformatted my old laptop with the Windows XP Home recovery console. I erased both the C: and D: drives with the command "format C: /fs:ntfs" and "format D: /fs:ntfs". Since I don't have an extra copy of Windows XP, I intend to install an old Windows 98 on the machine. I exited the recovery console by typing "EXIT", restarted, took out the CD. I then put in the Windows 98 cd in the cd drive. This is the error I recieve.

"NTLDR is missing
Press CTRL+ALT+Del to restart"

What can I do to bypass this, and install Windows 98? Just in case the model of the laptop looks like it is an IBM Thinkpad 600X.

Thanks in advance, I hope I can fix this problem.

Windows 98 doesn't support the NTFS file system. You have to format as FAT32 or lower for Win98 to work.

Its a frigging Laptop, not a Labtop!!!!
