Default dual boot - swap file

Heres a good one...

I have a dual-boot 98/2000 system. I want for both OSs to share the same swap file (pagefile.sys). I noticed that there is a copy of this file on both my C (98) and D (2000) drives. My question is why are all of my W2K system files (Ntldr, NTDETECT.COM, etc.) on my C drive?

Here's a link...

It's not uncommon to share a swap file in a dual-boot system.
But, I do think my W2K system files are supposed to be on
my C drive like you said. What I am most concerned with is that there is a pagefile.sys on both my C and D drive. Can anyone explain that?

When you install both operating systems the NTLDR, NTDETECT.. etc files needed for booting must be installed on the HD that holds the MBR(Master Boot Record) otherwise you would not be able to boot into either OS.

The reason you currently have two swap files is because while installing the windows OS, windows by default puts the swap file on the same partition, or HD, as the root folder in this case WINNT or WINDOWS.
