You can partition any hard drive any # of times.
there is a limit of 4 primary partitions by the way :/

i'm, actually using VM ware now , but i dint' know it's for free
it is now, not that long ago they released it on a freeware license

I partitioned a 320GB HDD 5 times. Each partiton is about 60GB or so. I do use SATA HDD and i used Windows to Partition it. I dont know if the limit is still in effect since i have gotten around it.
