Every time I try to update my video drivers, I always get this error:

Error Code: -5003 : 0x5
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1930)
PAPP:NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display Drivers
PVENDOR:NVIDIA Corporation (http://www.nvidia.com/)
PGUID:EFB7D050-CAD2-11D4-B34D-00105A1C23DD
$9.1.0.429
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 0.64

It was doing that on my older video card (GeForce4 MX 440) and I just got a new video card tuesday, an eVGA GeForce 6800, which is also getting the driver update error. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've tried doing all the helpful installation tips on the NVIDIA site, and it still refuses to work for me. Hopefully someone has had a similar problem and can give me a solution. Here are my system specs, I read the rules, but I'm slightly confused on what specs you'd actually want, so here's everything I got off your list:

CPU:
Proccessor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Proccessor Code Name: Northwood
Core Speed: 2394.0 MHz
FSB: 133.0 MHz
Bus Speed: 532.0 MHz

Mainboard:
Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corp.
Model: 02Y832
Graphic Interface Version: AGP Version 3.0
Graphic Interface Transfer Rate: 8x

Memory:
Type: DDR-SDRAM
Size: 512 MB
Freq.: 166 MHz

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Device Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6800
Chip Type: GeForce 6800
Device Approx. Total Memory: 128 MB
Main Driver: nv4_disp.dll
Drivers Version: 6.14.0010.7125 (English)

I'm also curious about what I'm actually missing out on without updating my drivers. Would I get a performance boost? Or would I not notice anything different?

Thanks for the help.

[Edit] Heh, my user title is so true... :(

Did you get the most current drivers from nVidia? Was this card and upgrade for a system or did you buy this from another source and install it yourself. I have a 6800 PCI E in my Dell and i had touse the Dell drivers not the ones from nVidia. For some reason the ones from nVidia didnt work right. As far as what you are missing...they are just the newest and most stable (read as most current given all things in hacker world) drivers available. Some programs might not run without them. Some games might give problems. It all depends on why the new drivers were written in the first place. Only nVidia can tell you that much.
