I previously posted that on watching YouTube clips, although the dialogue was continuous the picture was freezing for a fraction of a second every few seconds.

I managed to find a fix for this by downloading Freecorder 5. The software automatically downloads every YouTube video I watch and saves it. When I want to watch it again I do so using Freecorder, which eliminates the intermittent freezing.

However, many of the videos on YouTube are subject to copyright. Given this, is it illegal to download them using Freecorder 5, even for private use?

I live in the United Kingdom.

Yes it is still illegal to download the content using any software. All videos unless noted that they can be used freely for any purpose fall under copyright to the person or persons responsible for creation of the content. You must have express permission from them to download the content free of charge. Using this software to bypass this is another form of piracy.
