double click problem

I am running XP and recently installed a new monitor not that I can see any corrolation to this problem. Also running Norton interent security. Now I can not reliably use double click to open things, email or files. Need to right click then "open" in most cases. Sometimes double clicking several times will open things. Any help here for this problem?

Never mind I found the problem. The new monitor is a bigger wide screen and I went in to speed up the mouse travel. Instead I increased the double click speed. Made it too fast to respond to. Slowed it down and my problem is gone.
