There are 15 categories that will be used to judge the competition; show us how good you are by entering an application into one or more of the competition categories.

Best integrated/SOA application utilizing SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and BizTalk
Best SmartPhone application using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server Mobile Edition
Best Tool to provide additional functionality to SQL Server 2005
Best Occasionally Connected Smart Client Application using SQL Server 2005 Data
Best use of Managed DirectX, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server Express
Best Visual Studio 2005 PowerToy utilizing SQL Server Express
Best extension of Visual Web Developer and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit
Best sample demonstrating key functionality not already included in the BizTalk Server SDK

One application will be selected from each category to join the SQL Server, Visual Studio and BizTalk product teams at the Joint Product Launch, where the winners will be announced at a special dinner the evening before the launch.

Official Competition Rules
The Microsoft Connected Systems 2005 Developer Competition is a global, skill based competition intended to highlight and reward creativity and programming excellence using SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and BizTalk 2004/2006. The competition is open to anyone who practices in the field of technology development, either individuals or organizations. Some eligibility restrictions apply, see Official Competition Rules for details. Entries will be judged on creativity, innovation, design and technical excellence, usefulness, usability and value. All competition entrants must be registered and have submitted a description of the application they are entering into the competition by August 30, 2005. The official closing date for final competition entries is September 15, 2005. View the Official Competition Rules for details and eligibility.

Employees of Sponsors, their affiliates, parent companies, participating vendors, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, and anyone working directly on this program, product and promotion and the immediate family members or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to enter the competition.

How to Enter the Competition
To participate in the competition you must first register at this website by clicking on the register button. You will be asked to submit some basic personal details to allow us to communicate with you regarding the competition. Once you have registered, you will need to submit between one and three brief descriptions of the application you are proposing for the competition, submitted in English, to officially enter the competition. You will also be required to select which competition categories your applications should be judged on.

You will receive a confirmation from the competition chair of your registered status with 48 hours of completing this form. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the competition chair to confirm registration.

Once you have entered the competition you will be able to request beta copies of the various products to be sent to you along with a DVD containing a pre built Virtual PC image configured with the competition machine specifications.
